BUY or PASS? Fantasy Novel #FridayFiveChallenge

Welcome to the ‘Friday Five Challenge.’

Would you BUY or PASS if you had only a thumbnail image and five minutes to decide?

Welcome to the #FridayFiveChallenge. The original idea comes from Rosie Amber, and you can join up at https://rosieamber.wordpress.com

The rules are laid out at the end of this post if you fancy having a go.

Here is my contribution for this week:

Today’s choice was made for me by a well placed Facebook Ad. I do follow the author on social media as I like the things she posts, and she interacts well with her followers, but as yet I haven’t read any of her books. So when I saw the advert and the enticing cover I clicked straight through to her Amazon page:

Rise of the Flame (The Eura Chronicles Book 1) by K.N. Lee

BLURB:

Six races. Four realms. One human girl who can bring them together in peace… or war. Lilae has been hunted since the night of her birth, for she is heir to a god’s throne. But everything that her surrogate family has done to protect her may have been for nothing. After Lilae is stripped of her powers and enslaved by the emperor of the Mithrani, she finds herself desperate to survive in a strange new world.

On the other side of the world, Liam leads his army across the realm to protect the Tryans and the fairies from those who would do them harm. But when their odds of survival become next to impossible, he must set out on a journey to find a dragon, a child, and the blessing of a fallen god to aid him in the inevitable realm war.

The path forward for both Liam and Lilae seems clear, until their dreamscapes collide. But while they draw strength from their connection, Lilae may be falling for the emperor who should be her greatest enemy.

My Analysis:

When I look at the cover, I see sword, sorcery, and magic. The image is beautiful and very captivating, and I hope this will be a story about a strong female heroine. It is book one of the Eura Chronicles series, so if I enjoy the storyline, there is the possibility of more books to follow. K.N. Lee is an American author with twelve titles to her name.

The Stats:

The book has 382 pages, and the Kindle price is £3.18. There are no reviews on the UK site, but there are 41 on Amazon.com, 78% of them are five stars.

Here is an example of a three star review from Amazon.com:

Interesting concept, lots of action, different characters. I would have preferred maybe a few less characters, or more of an introduction to the feel of the characters and different worlds, as it is sometimes difficult to get a good impression of the place/ people because there is so much going on. Interesting, will probably read next one. Ends on cliffhanger.

I didn’t have to think too hard about this one; it was a BUY from me. I look forward to reading this book and hopefully more by this author.

What is the Friday Five Challenge?

In today’s online shopping age, readers often base their buying decisions on small postage stamp size book covers (thumb-nails), a quick glance at the book description and the review. How much time do they spend making that buying decision?

AUTHORS – You often only have seconds to get a reader to buy your book, is your book cover and book bio up to it?

The Challenge is this… IN ONLY FIVE MINUTES…

1) Go to any online book supplier,

2) Randomly choose a category,

3) Speed through the book covers, choose one which has instantly appealed to your eye,

4) Read the book Bio/ Description of this book,

5) If there are reviews, check out a couple,

6) Make an instant decision, would you BUY or PASS?

(then write a little analysis about your decision)

  1. That auburn hair is very eye catching and adds to the “flame” in the title, very striking. I do have to be in the mood for a fantasy with a quest, I don’t rush to read this genre, so today although the cover is fantastic, it’s a pass from me.
