Would You BUY or PASS? Diary of a Single Wedding Planner #FridayFiveChallenge

Welcome to the ‘Friday Five Challenge.’

Would you BUY or PASS if you had only a thumbnail image and five minutes to decide?

Welcome to the #FridayFiveChallenge.  The original idea comes from Rosie Amber, and you can join up at https://rosieamber.wordpress.com

The rules are laid out at the end of this post if you fancy having a go.

Here is my contribution for this week:

I was totally uninspired this week and sat for ten minutes staring at the Amazon logo not knowing what to type into the search bar.  Eventually, I gave up and decided to fill in my diary appointments for January  – inspiration struck!  With the new year just around the corner, there should be a plethora of books based on diary related stories, so I typed ‘Diary’ into the search bar and scrolled past the MANY Diary of a Wimpy Kid novels until I found this:

Diary of a Single Wedding Planner by Violet Howe

BLURB:

Wedding planner Tyler Warren left heartbreak behind when she ran away from her small Southern hometown and started a new life in a big city. Years later, she wants to believe in the fairy-tale endings her job promotes, but the clients she meets day after day seem to be more “Crazily Ever After” than “Happily Ever After.”

Meanwhile, her own attempts at romance play out as bizarre comedies rather than love stories, and she’s starting to think Prince Charming either fell off his horse or got eaten by a dragon. When unresolved issues from Tyler’s past complicate things even further, she discovers she may yet have some things to figure out before she can find her own happy ending.

This delightful first book in the Tales Behind the Veils series chronicles Tyler’s wacky misadventures, both personal and professional. Whether she’s getting insane requests from brides or outlandish requests on dates, you’re sure to be charmed and entertained by the Diary of a Single Wedding Planner.

My Analysis:

The cover is simple but effective.  The image ties in nicely with the title and before I reach the blurb I know roughly what I can expect.

Having worked in a conference and event department for many years, and briefly (very briefly) in the wedding department, I could relate to the ‘crazily ever after’ comment.  The blurb is funny and gives me just enough information to draw me in and want to know more.  I clicked through to the ‘look inside’ feature and read the first page.  It starts well, and I did like Howe’s voice.  I can see this being an amusing read to lighten the winter months.

The Stats:

The Kindle price is £2.53.  There is only 1 review on Amazon.co.uk (five stars), but 64 reviews on Amazon.com. 78% are five stars.

Here is an example of a five-star review from Amazon.com:

From the first paragraph of this sweet book, I was snorting with laughter! The author really brings these colorful characters to life! I loved getting glimpses into all the weddings Tyler worked on, and found myself wondering how many of these couples found their happily ever after. My only complaint is that the sequel isn’t out yet! Give this book a read. You won’t be disappointed!

N.B.: The sequel, Diary of a Wedding Planner in Love, is now out and also available on Amazon.

BUY or PASS?

It’s a BUY from me (I shall also recommend it to my friends who still work as Wedding Co-ordinators!)

No Friday Five from Rosie or Barb today but plenty of other posts to delight so pop over and see them.

What is the Friday Five Challenge?

In today’s online shopping age, readers often base their buying decisions on small postage stamp size book covers (thumbnails), a quick glance at the book description and the review. How much time do they spend making that buying decision?

AUTHORS – You often only have seconds to get a reader to buy your book, is your book cover and book bio up to it?

The Challenge is this… IN ONLY FIVE MINUTES…

1) Go to any online book supplier,

2) Randomly choose a category,

3) Speed through the book covers, choose one which has instantly appealed to your eye,

4) Read the book Bio/ Description of this book,

5) If there are reviews, check out a couple,

6) Make an instant decision, would you BUY or PASS?

(then write a little analysis about your decision)
