Inspirational people surround us at every turn. To celebrate some of the incredible women who continue to motivate me on my writing journey, I am sharing my Monday Muse – a look at the women/characters who are my artistic inspiration.
Last week I wrote about a childhood favourite, Mary Norton. You can read that post HERE. Today, I’m devoting the Monday Muse to a woman who inspires my non-fiction work, healer, and author, Louise Hay.
Louise was born on October 8th, 1926 in Los Angeles, CA. At the age of twenty, she became a model for a variety of designers in New York. She married Andrew Hay in 1955.
In 1972 (what a great year!) Louise began studying at the Science of Mind Church in New York. Six years later she published Heal Your Body, which has become the bible for all alternative therapists across the world. In 1980, Louise overcame cervical cancer using alternative methods.
You Can Heal Your Life – which is my all-time favourite non-fiction book – was published in 1985. I have almost worn my copy out! In 1988, Louise opened her publishing company, Hay House and two years later she appeared on the Oprah Winfrey show when her book, You Can Heal Your Life became a New York Times Best Seller.
She was dubbed by the New York Times, The Queen of the New Age, on her 80th birthday in 2008 – a title that I heartily agree with.
In 2009, Louise launched a self-publishing imprint called Balboa Press.
She has written numerous wellbeing books and collaborated on much more. In 2015, she launched her own range of colouring books for adults.
Everything Louise does is for the health and benefit of her readers and followers. She is a huge inspiration to me both as a writer and when I ran my holistic health business. Her guidance set me off on a journey of self-healing and self-discovery.
If I am still writing my books and looking that fantastic at 88, then I’ll be very happy! If you ever need a quick motivational boost, then I would recommend a visit to her website.
Do you have a favourite non-fiction author? Maybe you use Louise Hay’s books to help you in your day to day tasks? I’d love to hear your thoughts.
Love, love, love my books my Louise Hay.

I have a tendency to try to encourage all my friends and family to read her books too, but I get a bit enthusiastic, not everyone is ready for them or even wants to think that way about life. I recently got to a health point in my life which I resolved to turn around, I wrote out all the affirmations which applied to me and the situation and I set out on a daily meditation walk for a month. I chanted the affirmations in my head everyday, I’m in a good place now both in mind and body.

That’s fantastic, Rosie. I’m so glad you feel better now. I don’t think people appreciate the power of affirmations, meditation, and self-love. Not everyone can embrace this though – when the student is ready, the tutor appears 🙂

I was introduced to her work at the early stages of my alternative therapy training and everything she does resonates with me. A wonderful lady.

I love Louise Hay. I use her stuff as material for my well being workshops. “Love Yourself, Heal Your Life Workbook” is excellent. I highly recommend it. Great post Shelley. Some things there that I didn’t know about Louise. She’s a fantastic woman!!

I love reading about people who are so positive and enthusiastic. I do think it’s catching, don’t you?

Absolutely! Our energy bounces around us and interacts either physically or subconsciously with the people we admire or come into contact with. I always feel so uplifted when I read one of Louise’s books.
