My A-Z of Books

My A-Z of Books.

I spotted this challenge on Portobello Book Blog and thought it was a marvellous idea so decided to give it a go.

Author You’ve Read the Most Books From.

That award goes to the late James Herbert. I was a huge horror fan in my late teens and bought (and read) everything he wrote.

Best Sequel Ever.

Tough one as I do love a good sequel! I’ve decided to go for City of Ashes by Cassandra Clare. It’s the second book in her Mortal Instruments series and was pretty epic.

Currently Reading.

I’m half way through Key of Mystery by K.H.Mezek which I’m reading as part of Rosie Amber’s Book Review Team. It’s a YA urban fantasy novel.

I’m also reading Bitch Witch by S.R.Karfelt which is utterly brilliant.

And if that wasn’t enough, I’m also reading a non-fiction title about Moon Wisdom.

Drink of Choice While Reading.

Tetley Tea!

E-Reader or Physical Book.

I love both but tend to read 90% on my kindle and the remaining 10% as a physical book. If I fall in love with a kindle book I normally have to buy the paperback for my bookshelves too – I will be fully prepared when the zombie apocalypse arrives and technology fails!

Fictional Character you Probably Would Have Actually Dated in High School.

I would love to say Damon Salvatore from The Vampire Diaries (sucker for a bad boy!) but I probably ended up dating someone like Adrian Mole!

Glad You Gave This Book a Chance.

I adore YA fantasy fiction but managed to get myself into a reading rut. When I joined Twitter many years ago I made loads of new writer friends. I wanted to support these new pals and so I embraced the genres they wrote for. I bought Kings and Queens by Terry Tyler even though I would never normally buy family or contemporary fiction – I absolutely loved it! Terry has also managed to get me addicted to historical fiction too.

Hidden Gem Book.

Jazz Baby by Beem Weeks. It’s set in New Orleans in 1925 and follows a young teen as she is orphaned and seeks her dream of singing jazz. It’s a beautiful (and brutal) book.

Important Moment in Your Reading Life.

Reading Ice and a Slice by Della Galton and deciding to become teetotal. I haven’t had an alcoholic drink for two and a half years.

Another moment that sticks in my mind is more to do with my son’s reading life – I overheard him talking to his friends on Xbox live and realised he was reading my book to his mates while they waited for FIFA to load! It was a proud moment 🙂

Just Finished.

I recently finished a horror novel, Flesh by Dylan J.Morgan which I reviewed for Rosie Amber’s Book Review Team. You can read my 5* review HERE.

Kind of Books You Won’t Read.

I had absolutely no interest in reading 50 Shades of Grey, but other than that I’ll give most things a go, although I do shy away from romance and chick-lit.

Longest Book You’ve Read.

City of Heavenly Fire by Cassandra Clare hit the 733-page mark.

Mayor Book Hangover.

I’ve had a few! The worst one was probably for Veronica Roth’s YA Divergent series. This might have had something to do with how she wrote the ending in book three (Allegiant) which traumatised me beyond belief!

Number of Bookcases You Own.

Six but I’m sure I could squeeze a few more in somewhere.

One Book You’ve Read Multiple Times

I need to return to my teens to answer this one. I read Barbara Conklin’s P.S. I Love You about fifty times. It was the very first book in the Sweet Dreams series from the 80s and had me in floods of tears every time I read it.

Preferred Place to Read.

Tropical Island where the sand is white, the sea is blue, and Johnny Depp is serving up non-alcoholic mojitos – OR – curled up on my sofa with my kitten.

Quote That Inspires You/Gives You All The Feels From a Book You’ve Read.

“We are all the pieces of what we remember. We hold in ourselves the hopes and fears of those who love us. As long as there is love and memory, there is no true loss.”

City of Heavenly Fire by Cassandra Clare (YA)

Reading Regret.

That there isn’t an extra day in the week dedicated to reading.

Series You Started and Need to Finish.

Rachel Morgan’s Creepy Hollow books (5 books in the series and I’m only on number 2).

Three of Your All-Time Favourite Books.

I’m going to stick with the YA genre for this question:

Throne of Glass by Sarah J.Maas

City of Bones by Cassandra Clare

Ink and Bone by Rachel Caine

510Tw-xhEfL._SX304_BO1,204,203,200_

Unapologetic Fangirl For.

The Twilight Books – I loved them.

Very Excited for This Release More Than All Others.

I’ve just received two new release books from Sarah J.Maas (A Court of Mist and Fury) and Cassandra Clare (Lady Midnight) which I’m a wee bit excited about.

Shameless book plug – I’m excited about the release of book three in my YA fantasy trilogy due out in December 2016 (Guardians of the Lost Lands) – book plug over, thank you.

Worst Bookish Habit.

Not giving myself enough time to process a novel before launching into reading the next one on my list. I’ve often wondered where a character has disappeared to only to realise it’s a totally different book!

X Marks The Spot: Start On The Top Left of Your Shelf And Pick The 27th Book.

The Taming of the Queen by Philippa Gregory.

Your Latest Purchase.

Witches. James I and the English Witch-Hunters by Tracy Borman.

Zzzz-Snatcher Book (Last Book That Kept You Up Way Too Late).

The Black Hours by Alison Williams. It was so gripping that I didn’t put it down until 2am.

So there you are, my A-Z of books. It would be great to read your choices so please tag me in if you decide to do this challenge so I can pop over and check it out.

  1. LOVE this idea!!!! If you have a list of the A-Z categories on a word doc, as a template, could you email me them, then I can do this too!!! I would of course tag yours in it…. no worries if you haven’t, I’ll just copy from this.
