#FridayBookShare The 5th Wave by Rick Yancey #YA #SciFi

With the weekend approaching it’s the perfect time to seek out new books to read, so I’ve created the Friday Book Share Game to help search for that ideal novel.

07 _ 10 _ 2014 (4)

Anyone can have a go – all you need to do is answer the following questions based on a book you enjoyed reading and use the hashtag #FridayBookShare. Be sure to like, comment, and share other participants posts.

First line of the book.

Recruit fans by adding the book blurb.

Introduce the main character using only three words.

Delightful design (add the cover image of the book).

Audience appeal (who would enjoy reading this book?)

Your favourite line/scene.

Here’s mine:

As everyone knows, I’m a huge YA fan and this book is a wonderful coming of age tale complete with aliens, soldiers, and plenty of action. It’s gripping and terrifying all at the same time!

It’s also been made into a major motion picture. I always worry when my favourite books are made into films, but in the case of The 5th Wave I was pleasantly surprised.   They did an excellent job of capturing Rick Yancey’s world. My three teens were impressed too so it must be good 😉

First line – Aliens are stupid.

Recruit fans by adding the book blurb –

After the 1st wave, only darkness remains. After the 2nd, only the lucky escape. And after the 3rd, only the unlucky survive. After 4th wave, only one rule applies: trust no one.

NOW IS THE DAWN OF THE 5TH WAVE

On a lonely stretch of highway, Cassie runs.
Runs from the beings that only look human, who have scattered Earth’s last survivors.

To stay alone is to stay alive, until she meets Evan Walker. Beguiling and mysterious, Evan may be her only hope.

Now Cassie must choose: between trust and despair, between defiance and surrender, between life and death.

Introduce the main characterCassie is loyal, brave, and a survivor

Delightful Design(The publishers launched a cover to complement the movie so this is a different front to the paperback copy I have but it’s still pretty cool).

Audience appeal Perfect for fans of YA books with plenty of action, sci fi, dystopian

Your favourite line/scene

(There are so many great scenes in this book but this one shows us the sibling bond that has carried Cassie so far.)

I want to drink in his sweet Sammy smell forever, but I can’t. The place is crawling with armed soldiers, some of them Silencers – or anyway, not teens, so I have to assume they’re Silencers. I lead Sammy over to a wall, putting a group of kids between us and the nearest guard. I scrunch down as low as possible and whisper, ‘Are you okay?’

BUY a copy of The 5th Wave on Amazon UK and Amazon US

Also available – The Infinite Sea (Book 2) and The Last Star (Book 3)
