I’ve had this book on my TBR pile for a while and only recently managed to start it – so far, I’m loving it! If you want to know more about Ally Condie’s books you can follow her on Twitter @allycondie

First line/s

My twin sister, Bay, and I pass underneath the brown-and-turquoise banners hanging from the ceiling of the temple. Dignitaries perch on their chairs in the gallery, watching, and people crowd the pews of the nave.

Recruit fans by adding the book blurb

Set within a civilization that lives deep beneath the sea, twin sisters, Rio and Bay, are about to make the most important decision of their lives.

Will they choose to stay Below, sacrificing their soul but living in happiness, or to go Above, keeping their soul but living in weakness and misery.

No one could have predicted their choice.

Introduce the main characterRio is confused, dedicated, and scared

Audience appeal Perfect choice for fans of YA Science Fiction and Fantasy, and Dystopian.

Your favourite line/scene

She’s here.

Maire.

My mother’s sister.

The siren woman some people call a witch.

The one I think might have killed my mother.

How else to explain her crumpled figure on Maire’s doorstep? Or why Maire never said anything, never offered a single word of explanation as to why my mother might have come to her?

“Maire wouldn’t have killed her,” Bay said, when I told her about my suspicions. “A sister couldn’t do that.”

  1. I read this a bit ago (as soon as it was released). I liked it, the story was clever, the writing (as always with Condie is beautiful) and…bonus…the cover is stunning. That said, I liked her other books better. Let me know what you think of it.
