Q&A with Tipping Point Author, @TerryTyler4 #PostApocalyptic

It’s no secret that I love a good post apocalyptic storyline. I wouldn’t be such a huge Walking Dead fan if I didn’t enjoy an end-of-the-world dilemma. Fortunately, one of my favourite authors has recently released the first book in her post apocalyptic/dystopian series. Tipping Point by Terry Tyler is out now and gathering positive feedback like a zombie corpse attracts an axe to the head!

I was on holiday when the virus broke, but that didn’t stop me from downloading my copy and disappearing behind my Kindle cover on the beach. You can read my review HERE.

I loved Tipping Point so much I stalked asked Terry to pop onto my blog and share a little behind the scenes look at her new release. Over to Terry:

Where does Tipping Point sit in the wide genre of post apocalyptic books?  Zombies, despotic war lords or real life?

I’ve tried to make it as real life as possible.  Vicky is a 34 year old mum living in a small town when the first outbreak of the disease is discovered there; I tried to imagine what it really would be like to be living under military lockdown, and seeing your town fall apart.  There would be so many different reactions: some would understand the danger, some would believe that the government would come along and save them.  Others would see the breakdown of society as a big free-for-all, taking what they want; some would help others, some would not care, and do anything necessary to keep themselves and their families alive.  The realisation that the world is now a perilous one dawns on Vicky only gradually.

What would you say to a reader who hasn’t tried this genre before, and is not sure if they will like it?

Most of the post apocalyptic books I’ve read are all about the people, and the dilemmas they face, just like any other genre.  I discovered this when I first read a zombie book; I thought it would be all blood and gore, and a bit like a graphic action novel, but it wasn’t.  It was about people trying to survive, and I was hooked!  Think about The Walking Dead; the glory of Daryl Dixon apart, the reason why we love it is because we care about what happens to Rick, Carol and co.   Tipping Point is about the collapse of society, yes, but as it affects Vicky, her family and friends.

As a fellow TWD fan I can confirm that Daryl Dixon is glorious we love and care about the characters 😉

Is each book a stand alone?

No, it’s a continuing story.  There is a certain amount of resolution in each, and I was wary of ending on a cliff hanger (I don’t mind them but I know a lot of readers hate them), but the reason this is a series is because the story is far too long for one book!   I’ve written the first two instalments (Book 2, Lindisfarne, is due out in September), and the plot for Book 3 has (at last!) come together enough for me to start writing the plan, but I keep thinking of side stories, too….
