My Review:

I had the pleasure of meeting author, Claire Jenkins at a recent networking event and was interested to hear about the launch of her new book, written in collaboration with Anita Pickerden. Invited for a Job Interview? Now What? is a delightful little guidebook breaking down all of the elements of preparing for, dressing for, and attending an interview.

With three teenagers under my roof who are at the Saturday job/University stage in their development, I thought this guide would be perfect to help them prepare for the experiences ahead.

What struck me straight away about this book was how positive it is. We’ve all applied for jobs, attended interviews, and being unsuccessful, but this guide shows you how to use this kind of experience to strengthen your interview techniques.

There are exercises throughout to test your knowledge and work out the finer details of the roles you are applying for. The section on researching the company you would like to work with was incredibly useful.

Whether you’re a school leaver looking for a weekend job, a mother returning to work after having children, or someone who wants to change roles/industry/company then this book is a valuable guide.

Dr Anita Pickerden was a lecturer in Further Education Colleges and Universities, designing and delivering high quality training programmes in Leadership and Management. She continues to teach in these areas, mainly in a work-based environment, for example on Executive Education programmes and managing Work Based Project modules on a Retail Management degree. Her PhD research shows that good work life balance can improve employee engagement and she works with associates to improve productivity and work performance through training; coaching and evaluation. Her company offers Work Life Balance and Resilience coaching programmes. Anita trained with the Centre for Coaching from 2004-2007, gaining qualifications in Coaching, Psychological Coaching, Coaching for Performance, Organisational Stress Management and Coaching for Health & Wellbeing. She also holds a Diploma and Advanced Diploma in NLP & Health from Central NLP. She has coached people in preparing for interviews since 2015, and helps individuals to get themselves ‘work-ready’ through an online support network called Work Horizons.
