I’ve always loved the phrase ‘Rising like a Phoenix from the ashes’ but this week I’ve seen it put into action by a group of incredible people
If you follow me on social media you may be aware that I have been running a pop-up book stall at a local Christmas event – Hogarths Winter Market. It’s a beautiful venue set in gorgeous surroundings and the perfect place to enjoy a family trip out
Each of the festive huts are manned by local small businesses. On Wednesday evening the huts were ransacked by thugs and stock was either stolen or broken
Rascals Toy Shop, Walter & Fearne, and Sip ‘n’ Swig were cleaned out losing approximately £10,000 worth of stock between them. Jane from SJO Chic has had to deal with numerous breakages and approximately £200 worth of stock taken, and I came off lightly with minimal stock stolen.
In the case of Walter & Fearne, it’s not yet known if this gorgeous, unique children’s clothing business will recover thanks to mindless scumbags who can’t be bothered to get off their backsides and earn an honest living
The news of this reached us all on Thursday, and we were all reeling from it throughout the day and night. On Friday the stall holders rallied and met for a coffee and chat to discuss how we could move forward
With a fair amount of jigging and a HUGE amount of support we are rising from the ashes and opening the winter market again from Saturday 16th December with the stock we have left
I’m so proud to be a part of this group of businesses and to see the drive and determination to turn such a negative into a positive. With the support of Hogarths Hotel and their management and staff, we can re-open and bring a little Christmas cheer to everyone who joins us.
If you are local (or even if you’re not!), PLEASE do join us this weekend. If not this weekend then pop along and see us on Thursday 21st, Friday 22nd, Saturday 23rd, or Christmas Eve. We, the stall holders, will be there to greet you all with a smile, a cheery hello, and a chance to buy last-minute gifts
I’d also like to finish with a massive thank you to everyone who has commented, shared, liked, and offered us incredible support via our various social media platforms. Thanks from all of us at Hogarths Winter Market
Jodie, Giles, Jane, Shelley, Helen, Cheryl, Mark, Louise, Lisa, Jessica, Ellie & Steve.
Feels wrong to ‘like’ this post in a way but good luck to you all x

Well done, everyone. And good luck. All I can say about those who tried to destroy your goodwill and livelihoods is they failed… and there is always karma. Thanks for letting us know everyone of you has rallied, Shelley. x

So very sorry to hear the news of what happened, Shelley. However, you’ve beaten those ex-members of the human race by carrying on with the winter market. Merry Christmas to all of you, and wishing you all much success with it.

I have loved reading about how you all refused to let such a horrible event stop you. I love reading about people who refuse to stop their light from shining. Inspirational

Wishing you all every success with the market. What a shame some idiots tried to spoil it all for you, that kind of thing makes my blood boil!
I am so glad that you all decided to keep going despite it all. 🤶🎅

I LOVE markets, and especially around Christmas time. I would’ve attended if we had been nearby. All the best Shelley, and much success for you and the market. The world needs more markets 🙂

I’m so sorry you all experienced such sorrow, especially around the holidays. But, I do hope that the rest of your market time is successful, and that some peace and happiness can be found in coming together and continuing on after what has happened. Merry Christmas to you all!
