A Star is Born Film Review 5*
(Cast: Bradley Cooper, Lady Gaga)
Film Blurb:
Seasoned musician Jackson Maine discovers (and falls in love with) struggling artist Ally. She has just about given up on her dream to make it big as a singer until Jackson coaxes her into the spotlight. But even as Ally’s career takes off, the personal side of their relationship is breaking down, as Jackson fights an ongoing battle with his own internal demons.
WOW! There aren’t many films that leave me speechless, moved, and tearful, but A Star is Born achieved all of this and more.
Bradley Cooper has the most incredible singing voice, and I’ve already googled to see if the soundtrack is available to buy (yes it is, with 34 amazing original songs), and Lady Gaga is her usual fabulously talented self.
I’ve never seen the original movie (1937) or the remakes (1954, 1976) so I can’t compare to what’s gone before, all I can say is I loved this movie. It’s Bradley Cooper’s first film as a director, and although it’s rumoured that his friends told him not to bother making this film, I for one, am glad he did. The chemistry between Cooper and Gaga is excellent and makes it all the more powerful.
It highlights the not so glitzy side of being a star which is what gives the story its grit and is full to the brim with incredible songs. If you’re looking for a film that’s funny, touching, and heart-breaking (and leaves you with a tear in your eye) then I’d highly recommend A Star is Born.

Ok, your review got me hooked to this one, Shelley. Will definitely try to catch this one. Haven’t watched the earlier versions, but this one with Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga will definitely be worth watching. Have you watched Searching ? If you haven’t, then I will recommend it highly, as I have done reviewing that one. That one is stunningly gripping.

I am a huge fan of the Barbra Streisand /Kris Kristofferson version, so I was wary of a remake but after seeing the trailers thought it looked good. After watching the film today it is an excellent remake, made very current and with original music. I do think they missed a trick by not keeping one of the songs from the 1976 version – with one more look at you… as this fits so well with the dialogue and made the final song more poignant (honestly, watch it on Youtube). I now need to re-watch Streisand & Kristofferson whose chemistry was every bit as great as that off Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga.
