Shelley Wilson Author and Writing Mentor

Long Bio:

Shelley Wilson is a genre-straddling author of young adult fantasy fiction, historical fiction, romance, and self-help non-fiction. Her first self-published book, How I Changed My Life in a Year was released in 2014 and hit the number one spot on Amazon’s best seller list for Self-Help and Women’s Biography two years in a row. In 2016, it attracted the attention of a PRH interested in acquiring the title for their ever-evolving catalogue of personal development books. How I Changed My Life in a Year is a unique blog-to-book story about a year-long challenge Shelley set herself on New Year’s Eve. Unhappy with her regurgitated resolution list, she decided to publicly blog about her aim to complete fifty-two challenges in one year.

She went on to release two ‘handbag self-help guides’ under the series title of Wellbeing Workshop, both topics are covered in her physical workshops. The first, released in 2015 is Meditation for Beginners, and the second is Vision Boards for Beginners, another 2015 release.

In 2016, Shelley designed a set of Oracle Motivation Cards which she used with her clients during their meditation groups. They proved to be so popular she decided to produce them for sale. Due to the high cost of production and shipping, Shelley and the design team at BHC Press chose to turn the project into a book and so Motivate Me! An Oracle Guidebook was born.

Following the success of How I Changed My Life in a Year, Shelley wrote a sequel-that’s-not-a-sequel about the organisational process of surviving the year that changed her life. How I Motivated Myself to Succeed, released September 2017 and is full of advice, tips, case studies, and exercises for achieving success, setting goals, and allowing time and space in your life to accommodate this.

In 2019, Shelley worked in collaboration with a local illustrator to produce Meditation for Children, a short book aimed at the 5-9 age bracket. This little book received fabulous support from parents and teachers alike, and is represented on Sue Atkins, book club. (ITV’s This Morning parenting expert).

In addition to her self-help titles, Shelley also writes fantasy fiction for the young adult/teenage genre. She wrote the first draft of all three books of her Guardian Series during NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month). Guardians of the Dead 2013, Guardians of the Sky 2014, and Guardians of the Lost Lands 2015. She then went on to produce a second series, Oath Breaker which was released in June 2017, and Oath Keeper (2018). In October 2019 this popular werewolf series was re-released as a single title, Hood Academy. All her fiction contains supernatural or mythical elements. She loves to explore witchcraft, faeries, dragons, vampires, and werewolves and tries to include insights which mirror her self-help background. In Guardians of the Dead her main character discovers the Chakras and working with energy, something Shelley did every day in her Holistic Spa.

In 2020, Shelley released a middle-grade fantasy novel, The Phantom’s Curse, which took her back to her sword and sorcery roots. Always wanting to push herself as a writer, her next fictional novel, The Last Princess, takes a more historical route and follows protagonist Edith as she comes face to face with the Viking invaders of 866 AD. In 2022 and 2023, she published a vampire duology, Blood Born and Blood Torn.

After many years of writing fantasy and action and chopping characters’ heads off, Shelley has dipped her toe into romance and published her debut romance novel, Floating Solo, in November 2024. This title is a finalist in the Romantic Novelists’ Association Awards 2025 in the Debut Romantic Novel Category.

In 2025, her publisher closed its doors, and thirteen of Shelley’s titles were removed from all sales platforms. She is in the process of starting her own imprint to republish a portion of her catalogue and provide additional support for her writing mentor clients.

Born in Leeds, West Yorkshire, Shelley moved to the West Midlands as a youngster and has lived there ever since. She is a single mum of three, a fat goldfish, and a black cat called Luna. She is an avid list writer, a solo traveller in her VW camper, who enjoys reading and eating pizza.
