Here’s mine:

I recently started reading Philippa Gregory’s Tudor Court novels and loved them, but I first discovered this incredible author on the YA shelves with Changeling, the first in her Order of Darkness Series.

First line/sThe hammering on the door shot him into wakefulness like a handgun going off in his face.

Recruit fans by adding the book blurb

The year is 1453, and all signs point to it being the end of the world. Accused of heresy and expelled from his monastery, handsome seventeen-year-old, Luca Vero, is recruited by a mysterious stranger to record the end of times across Europe. Commanded by sealed orders, Luca is sent to map the fears of Christendom, and travel to the very frontier of good and evil. Seventeen-year-old Isolde, a Lady Abbess, is trapped in a nunnery to prevent her claiming her rich inheritance. As the nuns in her care are driven mad by strange visions, walking in their sleep, and showing bleeding wounds, Luca is sent to investigate and all the evidence points to Isolde’s criminal guilt. Outside in the yard they are building a pyre to burn her for witchcraft…

Introduce the main characterLuca is kind, smart, and caring

Audience appeal Perfect choice for historical fiction fans, whether you enjoy YA or not.

Your favourite line/sceneI’ve always loved Philippa Gregory’s flawless descriptions, this is one of my favourites.

Luca could not drag his eyes from this girl who had veiled her face from him, and hooded her hair so that he should never know what she looked like. In the golden light of the rising sun he stared at her, seeing her for the first time, her dark blue eyes under brown up-swinging brows, a straight perfect nose, and a warm tempting mouth. Then Brother Peter came towards them and he saw her blood-stained hands as the clerk bound them with rope, and Luca realised that she was a thing of horror, a beautiful thing of horror, the worst thing between heaven and hell: a fallen angel.
