Experience A Summer to Remember with @SueMoorcroft @AvonBooksUK #ebook #contemporaryfiction

I recently caught up with author Sue Moorcroft when she spoke at the Socially Shared Women in Business Conference earlier this year. Her talk was inspiring, funny, and well received by everyone in attendance, and there was great excitement about Sue’s release, A Summer to Remember.

With the eBook now only 99p, I couldn’t resist inviting Sue back on my blog to give us a little background information. Read on to find out all about the inspiration behind the quirky residence Clancy heads for in the book. If you want to experience ‘a summer to remember’ for yourself then grab a copy TODAY!

A Summer to Remember by Sue Moorcroft

Why a roundhouse?

In A Summer to Remember is a roundhouse in the tiny seaside village of Nelson’s Bar, Norfolk. It’s an unusual building and came to me while I daydreamed one day, remembering that my mother used to have a pottery biscuit barrel in the shape of a roundhouse with doors and windows and a thatched roof. Because it had been a gift she displayed it in her china cabinet along with its attendant cottage-shaped teapot, even though she didn’t like the set at all.

Knowing there’s a farm near where I live that also has a roundhouse I began browsing the internet. It’s astonishing how many roundhouses there are. Some have been oasthouses or towers but others were simply built in their distinctive cylindrical shape. One in my own county had been sold a couple of years ago and a pdf of the estate agent’s brochure was still online for me to gleefully print out. I put it in A Summer to Remember as the figurehead to Roundhouse Row holiday cottages, which is where Clancy Moss heads for when she has to leave her imploding London life.

Roundhouse Row being in Norfolk I made ‘my’ roundhouse built of local red and white chalk and put Clancy’s bedroom up in the roof with views over the village to the sea beyond. I toyed with making all the houses in the row of cottages round but couldn’t quite summon this picture to my mind’s eye so the rest are the more usual rectangular shaped houses.

I began to wish I could go and live in the Roundhouse. It had been owned by Clancy’s cousin Alice and she’d persuaded her then-fiancé Lee to build her a round shed and create round flower beds and lawns. (This kind of work is much easier on the page than it is in a real garden.) Then, to create lots of conflict, in the prologue I had Alice jilt Lee at the altar and leave the Roundhouse behind. Aaron, Lee’s brother, shows what a good guy he is by buying Lee out of the holiday cottages so he can start again somewhere else. This leaves Aaron in partnership with Alice but she travels, leaving Clancy to administer her share of the business.

Then Roundhouse Row needs a new caretaker just when Clancy needs a new life and she gives herself the job. Unfortunately, Aaron is not at all pleased to see her!

And that’s where Chapter One begins …
