Hello and welcome to my author blog,
I’m a genre straddling English author of motivational self-help titles and young adult fantasy fiction. My sensible side writes non-fiction books to inspire you to survive and thrive, and my cheeky and playful side writes young adult fiction for lovers of the supernatural and kick-ass heroines.
My passions include writing (obvs!), reading fantasy/horror/post-apocalyptic stories, Tudor and Viking history, visiting castles, eating pizza, and obsessing over to-do lists.
I was born in Leeds, West Yorkshire but raised in Solihull, West Midlands, UK, where I live with my three grown-up children, one fifteen-year-old fat goldfish and a black cat called Luna.
I was asked during an author interview to list my favourite things:
- Pizza
- List writing (yes, it’s a thing)
- Marvel films (Captain America is my fav Avenger!)
- History – especially Vikings and Tudor
- Anything supernatural or mythological – especially Vampires
- Watching The Walking Dead/Vikings/Supernatural
- Johnny Depp
- Staring up at the moon (I may have been a werewolf in a previous life)
- Coffee – too much coffee!
You can check out all my titles via my publisher, BHC Press.

Hello Shelley. Your background experiences sound very interesting. It’s great that you help others begin on their meditation journey. Meditation has worked for me and transported me to many heightened levels. Also, I have worked with YA and I know that they must enjoy your works. Will put a few on my reading list. Cheers, Lynn M.

Hi Shelley and thank you for the follow. And if you are at the Bash in June, see you there!

Oh my goodness, yours looks so professional (NICE)! 🙂 Self-help without humour (which is pretty much common) is exactly what puts me off when it comes to reading the genre. I don’t want some super serious person telling me what to do! 😉 But withhumour…you’ve definitely piqued my interest! 🙂

Aww shucks, thanks Anne 🙂 Yes, I do love a good giggle especially at myself! I’m a huge self-help fan but the ‘you must do…’ and ‘take stock of..’ does my head in sometimes. Life can be pretty crappy at times but if you can find the laughter in any situation then you’ll recover faster – and probably live longer! Thanks for the follow 🙂

Amen to that! Self-mockery or seeing the humour in things always helps me to lighten up the situation :).Thank you as well!!

Hi – I was reading your blog about writing and noticed that Lyndsy Fonseca is a source inspiration for you. She’s my daughter-in-law, married to my son Noah Bean! She is a lovely person in real life, too. Thank you for your interesting comments on motivations for life and writing. Very inspiring.

Thank you so much, Ruth. Wow, how fabulous that you have such a lovely lady in the family! Lyndsy is my main character inspiration in the latest novel I’m writing (a Saxon princess!) 😊

Congrats on your big win at the Bash! I wanted to chat with you, but didn’t muster the courage, I’m afraid! You’re a celebrity now. 🙂 I’ve enjoyed following you and discovered you thanks to the nominations. It’ll be different reading your blog posts now that I’ve “seen” you. Your prize was so well deserved. Congrats again!! 🙂

Thank you so much xxx
Ha ha that made me chuckle :-). I think we were all in the same boat – a bit excited and yet apprehensive about jumping on people we didn’t know very well. Next year I will be leaping about like a jack-in-the-box and making sure I get to chat to everyone! 🙂

Hi Shelley, so good to connect with you, thanks very much for the follow! I love your motivational quotes. Quite often as I sit down to write I read through a few, it makes a good start and gives me the right frame of mind to carry on where I left off the day before.
