BUY or PASS? A recap on the #FridayFiveChallenge

ID-10052692

Welcome to the ‘Friday Five Challenge.’

Would you BUY or PASS if you had only a thumbnail image and five minutes to decide?

Welcome to the #FridayFiveChallenge. The original idea comes from Rosie Amber, and you can join up at https://rosieamber.wordpress.com

The rules are laid out at the end of this post if you fancy having a go.

Here is my contribution for this week:

Happy Friday! This week’s post is coming to you from a sun lounger in Italy, with limited internet (bliss). So instead of a new search, I am re-capping the books I chose to BUY and PASS over the last ten weeks.

Week 1 = The Rancher (Redbourne Series #1 – Cole’s Story), this cowboy story was a PASS

Week 2 = Murder Al Dente: A Southern Pasta Shop Mystery (Southern Pasta Shop Mysteries Book 1) was a BUY – I’ve started reading this one, and so far it’s quite a pleasant book.

Week 3 = Legends 2: Stories in Honour of David Gemmell, it was a BUY for this sword & sorcery anthology.

Week 4 = Tracing Your Ancestors from 1066 to 1837 was a hefty £8+ for the Kindle edition, so it was a PASS for genealogy.

Week 5 = OMG I’m a Teen! Now What? A Survival Guide for Teenage Girls was a definite PASS.

Week 6 = Visual CBT: Using pictures to help you apply Cognitive Behavioural Therapy to change your life was a BUY, but I opted for a hard copy for this self-help book.

Week 7 = Ink and Bone, this young adult novel was an easy BUY and is currently in my hand luggage.

Week 8 = The Wolves of London. A BUY for steampunk.

Week 9 = From Italy with Love. A 99p Chick-Lit based in Italy – it was always going to be a BUY!

Week 10 = The Last Anniversary was a mystery I could do without, so it was a PASS.

Be sure to check out the hashtag, #FridayFiveChallenge on Twitter, to see who else has taken part in this week’s challenge. If you want to purchase any of the books listed above then, please go to the ‘Friday Five Challenge’ page on my website for all the post links.

What is the Friday Five Challenge?

In today’s online shopping age, readers often base their buying decisions on small postage stamp size book covers (thumb-nails), a quick glance at the book description and the review. How much time do they spend making that buying decision?

AUTHORS – You often only have seconds to get a reader to buy your book, is your book cover and book bio up to it?

The Challenge is this… IN ONLY FIVE MINUTES…

1) Go to any online book supplier,

2) Randomly choose a category,

3) Speed through the book covers, choose one which has instantly appealed to your eye,

4) Read the book Bio/ Description of this book,

5) If there are reviews, check out a couple,

6) Make an instant decision, would you BUY or PASS?

(then write a little analysis about your decision)
