Would You BUY or PASS? Sleepless in Manhattan by Sarah Morgan #FridayFiveChallenge #Romance

Welcome to the ‘Friday Five Challenge.’

Would you BUY or PASS if you had only a thumbnail image and five minutes to decide?

Welcome to the #FridayFiveChallenge.  The original idea comes from Rosie Amber, and you can join up at https://rosieamber.wordpress.com

The rules are laid out at the end of this post if you fancy having a go.

Here is my contribution for this week:

Today is a special day for me – it’s the release date of my second young adult fantasy novel, Guardians of the Sky, and so I used ‘New Releases’ as my theme for today’s Friday Five search.  There were quite a few dark and dreary covers but then I found this:

Sleepless in Manhattan by Sarah Morgan

Blurb:

What if the person who broke your heart, is the only one who can help you find your future?

Great friends. Amazing Apartment. An incredible job. Paige has ticked off every box on perfect New York life checklist. Until disaster strikes and instead of shimming further up the career ladder, Paige is packing up her desk.

Her brother’s best friend Jake might be the only person who can help her put her life back together. He also happens to be the boy she spent her teen years pining after, and Paige is determined not repeat her past mistakes. But the more time she spends with Jake, the more Paige realises the one thing that was missing from her world all along. The perfect New York love story…

My Analysis:

Cover – I normally run screaming for the hills if I spot a pink cover, but I like this one.  Maybe it’s because I find New York fascinating, or maybe it’s the light hearted illustration, whatever it is, I was drawn in.

The book blurb – I read an interview with Sarah Morgan recently and in it she explains how romance novels can be as varied as any other genre.  They’re not just ‘boy meets girl’:  “No two romances are the same, because no two relationships are the same.”

The Stats – The Kindle price is £3.99.  There are no reviews at the moment as the scheduled release date is 10th March 2016.  When I glanced over the other titles in Sarah’s catalogue she is quite capable of attracting a flurry of four and five star reviews.

BUY or PASS? – It’s not a book I would normally go for, but if I did start reading romance then I would certainly add this to my TBR pile.  At the moment it’s a PASS from me.

Amazon US – paperback copy.

What is the Friday Five Challenge?

In today’s online shopping age, readers often base their buying decisions on small postage stamp size book covers (thumbnails), a quick glance at the book description and the review. How much time do they spend making that buying decision?

AUTHORS – You often only have seconds to get a reader to buy your book, is your book cover and book bio up to it?

The Challenge is this… IN ONLY FIVE MINUTES…

1) Go to any online book supplier,

2) Randomly choose a category,

3) Speed through the book covers, choose one which has instantly appealed to your eye,

4) Read the book Bio/ Description of this book,

5) If there are reviews, check out a couple,

6) Make an instant decision, would you BUY or PASS?

(then write a little analysis about your decision)

  1. I have a daughter (okay two daughters) who just took up jobs in New York. They wouldn’t read a romance if you paid them, but I think this looks like fun. And certainly I’m always up for a trip to NYC, if only a virtual one.
