The Fun Five:

1  What part of the world do you come from?

Technically, I’m from the United States. But that’s just to cover up my outer space alieness.

2  What did you want to be when you grew up?

Paleoanthropologist

3  List three words to describe yourself.

Weird, imaginative, introverted

4  Who would play you in a film about your life?

Someone who doesn’t exist yet because by the time I’m famous enough for someone to make a movie about me, it’s going to be many, many years from now. If ever.

5  I understand you have extensive knowledge about the proper care and raising of dairy goats.  Do you have any other unique hobbies or talents?

My hobbies (way of life, whatever) include gardening, canning (both water bath and pressure), raising chickens, cooking, and reading. I’ve also raised and butchered out rabbits and goats. I like goat meat better than rabbit.

The Sensible Six:

1  What inspired you to write your first book?

My husband. He kept encouraging me to write a book and so one day I decided I would write one about dragons. It all snowballed from there.

2  Give us the title and genre of your latest book and a brief tagline.

My latest book is currently with my editor, the title is Bound by Legend. It’s the second book in my young adult paranormal series. Tagline isn’t set yet, but its either going to be, “She didn’t want to need him.” Or, “The Higher Powers must have been drunk the day they chose her.”

3  Your new series is a paranormal romance, does writing for this genre differ from writing your urban fantasy?

I haven’t actually written urban fantasy yet (though I do have one planned), my other genre is epic fantasy and yes, they differ quite a bit.

4  You have won numerous awards for your fantasy novels, do you have any advice for aspiring writers on creating the believable characters and worlds that appear in your work?

Be consistent. Your world can run by any rules you want, royalty and leadership positions can be set up however you want them, as long as you are consistent. As far as believable characters; they can’t just be figures in your story. If you want them to be real to the reader, they have to be real to you. Likewise, if you don’t feel it when you’re writing it, the reader won’t feel it when reading it.

5  What can we expect from you in the future?

I’m currently working on the first book in a new YA paranormal series, and I’m also working on the fourth Dragon’s Call book, and then I have the third in the Bound series to write.
