Here on the ‘Reader Spot,’ I share the bookish love of our avid book reviewers. From young adult to historical romance, chick-lit to a murder mystery, they know what they like and they’re happy to share. Whether you are a reader looking for a new book, or a writer wondering what your reader wants, I hope you find this series enjoyable.
Next up to the Reader Spot is reviewer, Julie Ryan. Find her book review blog HERE.
What genre do you enjoy reading?
I like a variety of genres but I mostly read contemporary fiction, crime and mystery, historical fiction but I’m pretty much open to any book with a good storyline. If it’s set in another country then so much the better.
Do you have a favourite author in this genre?
I have about ten favourite authors but I love Philippa Gregory, Victoria Hislop and Kate Morton.
How do you prefer to read your books?
I’ve always loved the feel and smell of physical books but I must admit that I’d be lost now without my Kindle. It’s so handy to take anywhere and there are so many books on it just waiting to be read.
Where do you purchase your books?
‘The Works’ has had some excellent authors in recently but I also buy from Amazon and can’t resist a good browse round charity shops and second hand bookshops.
Where do you find out about the books you read?
As a blogger, I hear about books from other authors and fellow bloggers. Amazon also recommends books and I’m quite prolific on Goodreads and Facebook too.
Do you have a budget when buying books? Do you stick to it if you do?
Ha ha. I tell myself I have a budget but then find I’ve clicked and bought another. I think I might have a bit of an addiction.
Do you write a review when you’ve finished reading? If so, where do you post this?
I always try to post a review when I finish a book, usually on Goodreads and Amazon. If an author has requested a blog post then I post on my own blog too www.allthingsbookie.com
What do you look for in a book?
It has to have a compelling story to grab me, characters also need to be believable and anything set in Greece or the Med will tick a box. Ultimately though it has to be well written.
Where do you like to read?
Anywhere! I usually read for an hour in bed at night but if I can, I read in the car, in the garden, in fact, you can pretty much find me with a book or kindle in my hands at all times.
What social media platforms are you active on?
