I created the Friday Book Share Game to help search for that ideal novel/author.
Anyone can have a go – all you need to do is answer the following questions based on a book you enjoyed reading and use the hashtag #FridayBookShare
First line of the book.
Recruit fans by adding the book blurb.
Introduce the main character using only three words.
Delightful design (add the cover image of the book).
Audience appeal (who would enjoy reading this book?)
Your favourite line/scene.
Here’s mine:
I’m feeling slightly frustrated that my TBR pile is getting longer and I can’t seem to catch up! I’ve wanted to start Maggie Stiefvater’s The Raven Boys series for ages but the first book remains wedged between Philippa Gregory and Alison Goodman! So, I thought I’d reminisce about the first Stiefvater book I ever read instead – Shiver.
First line – I remember lying in the snow, a small red spot of warm going cold, surrounded by wolves.
Recruit fans by adding the book blurb –
Grace is fascinated by the wolves in the woods behind her house; one yellow-eyed wolf in particular. Every winter, she watches him, but every summer, he disappears.
Sam leads two lives. In winter, he stays in the frozen woods, with the protection of the pack. In summer, he has a few precious months to be human . . . until the cold makes him shift back again.
When Grace and Sam finally meet, they realize they can’t bear to be apart. But as winter nears, Sam must fight to stay human – or risk losing himself, and Grace, for ever.
Introduce the main character – Grace is inquisitive, brave, and funny
Delightful Design –
Audience appeal – Perfect for fans of urban fantasy, YA, werewolves/shifters, mythology
Your favourite line/scene –
I was not a wolf, but I wasn’t Sam yet, either.
I was leaking womb bulging with the promise of conscious thoughts: the frozen woods far behind me, the girl on the tyre swing, the sound of fingers on metal strings. The future and the past, both the same, snow and then summer and then snow again.
A shattered spider’s web of many colours, cracked in ice, immeasurable sad.
“Sam,” the girl said. “Sam.”
She was past present future. I wanted to answer, but I was broken.
I like that scene you pulled out. I might just have to add this. I know what you mean about not catching up, there are several in my TBR pile I’m dying to get to.

Thanks, Diana. YA urban fantasy is a fantastic genre – don’t think that because it’s YA it’s just for kids! I love it and I’m an oldie lol 😉

I know! I can’t wait to read the Shiver series. Though I have so many books I want to get to. There’s one that looks amazing and is taunting me from my TBR pile: Guardians of the Sky. Though I can’t quite remember the author. *taps chin* Who is that? 😉 ❤

Maggie Stiefvater is one of my favorite writers, EVER. She’s who I want to be when I grow up! I love this Shiver series. It’s a sweet, unusual take on werewolves, and utterly beautifully written. But even more, I loved her stand-alone book, The Scorpio Races! So beautifully wrought and so scary, in parts, while pulling in everything you want in the story of a pair of young lovers. And don’t even get me started on The Raven Boys! I devoured the first two, and have the last two waiting for me. Somehow, I’ve postponed starting them, because I know I’m going to want to swallow them up, one right after the other, and not come back to the real world until I’ve had time to digest every, beautiful bite.
OMG. Maggie Stiefvater. So young to be so good!
