My Review:
I’m a bit late to the party with the Blackthorn series as Lindsay Pryor is about to release book seven. However, I’m delighted that I now have another six books to read back-to-back!
Blood Shadows is predominantly character driven, told by the two main characters, Kane Malloy, resident Master Vampire, and Caitlin Parish, the VCU Agent who has dedicated her life to hunting him down.
The chemistry between the two is electric as well as being heart-warming and funny. Caitlin might be up against the big bad, but she’s not going down without a fight.
The storyline is unravelled very well, and yet the plot remains a quiet backdrop compared to the character’s interactions. There were a few repetitive inner monologues from both Caitlin and Kane but the majority of their thoughts, feelings, and conversations swept the book along at a comfortable pace.
The sex scenes were tasteful but powerful and enhanced the connection between the main characters to another level. There were a few secondary characters who kept the story ticking along, each one playing their part to drive the direction of the book.
The writing flows incredibly well, and I look forward to devouring the rest of the series.
Blurb:
For vengeance – would you trust a vampire?
For justice – could you betray your family?
For love – are you ready to question everything you believe in?
Gifted with the ability to read the shadows of ‘third species’ beings, Caitlin Parish is the Vampire Control Unit’s most powerful agent. Despite that, her mission to hunt down Kane Malloy – a master vampire – comes with a death wish. Many have tried, but few have survived.
For Caitlin, tracking Kane is about more than just professional reputation. With her parents both mysteriously killed seven years apart to the day, Caitlin knows that without Kane’s help she is next.
She has four days to make a deal with the wicked, the irresistible, the treacherous Kane Malloy. The vampire who despises everything she stands for.
Or die.
Sounds promising – character driven vampires, what more could you ask for? 😉
