I’m delighted to introduce you to one of my fabulous networking connections, Ladey Adey, who is talking about her latest book, being inspired by lockdown, and brick laying!
Ladey Adey is a Publisher and Author and it breaks her heart to see so many writers paying for boxes of books to be printed but without ISBN or an understanding of how to reach readers beyond their own circle of friends and family. This began her journey into independent publishing to serve others and get their books published in a professional way.
She knows what is it to be writer and has over 9 books to her name (include co-authored children’s books on the Little Unicorn series with her daughter, Abbirose). She has been featured on the ALLi (Alliance for Independent Authors) blog and is the host of Ladey Adey Show – a podcast all about books.
Her latest is a business book – Successful Business Networking Online, the first book dedicated to online networking and her first ‘lockdown’ book! In it she helps business people understand the protocols of building relationships with other business people and ultimately making sales.
She started her professional career in the 1980s as a layout artist and designer for a technical publications department and editor of Company Newsletters, and is amazed at how far technology has moved since then. She is a user of social media platforms, running a LinkedIn Group for business people who network https://www.linkedin.com/groups/8985122/ and finding her way around Meeow and Clubhouse platforms!
When she is not publishing books for clients, or writing her own books you can find her in the garden building walls of brick or dry stone and creating mosaics. She is currently building a play area of slides, a tyre and climbing wall for her grand-daughter.
Ladey picked up her pen and began to write when life threw her a bunch of bananas – but life has a way of switching round! Now, she has mentored many authors to produce their books via an Author Mentoring Programme. She has the “T’ shirt in how to publish non-fiction and children’s books and likes to lend it out!

Tell us a little about yourself. (How did you get started writing? What do you do when you’re not writing?)
I’ve always got a kick from writing, as a kid I’d make up Limericks! And as an adult I’d keep a diary on and off, and always a travel journal for special holidays to capture moments alongside photographs.
I wrote my first book Unfrozen in 2014 to understand a life-changing work situation which I was going through and my love of books and writing was re-kindled and a new business born!
When I’m not writing, you’ll find me in the garden, building walls, brick-laying or dry stone and making mosaics.
Is this your first book? How many books have you written prior (if any?)
Successful Business Networking Online is my ninth book, previous books include three children’s books – Little Unicorn series for primary school children, written with my adult daughter.
What genre is it, and what is it about?
It is a business book and it is the first one dedicated to online business networking and the way to build powerful online connections as part of your marketing strategy.
What or who inspired you to write this book?
Lockdown 1.0 (March 2020) inspired me. There was unease on using Zoom (now it’s everyday usage!) and business people didn’t believe that online networking would be here to stay and felt it was second-rate to in-person networking (now, a blending approach is considered the best way). I explore the differences and what protocols business people need to know when using online technology to network with others.
What writing advice do you have for other aspiring authors?
Do it, write and write but don’t edit at the same time. When you try to combine the two, you are using different parts of the brain, so it gets confused and blocks the creative writing!
What do you enjoy most about writing and why?
The creative process, the feeling of awe that I have produced something which will make a difference to, inform, educate or entertain readers.

I love brick laying
I have a 2 year old grand-daughter who calls me Lala and is the joy of my life
I am a dyslexic who loves words and the world of authors
What is your least favourite part of the publishing/writing process?
The marketing and making sure people know about the book!

What is your next project?
I have my next 4 books mapped out – the next is a Faith Book called ‘Waltzing with God’.
