Is this your first book? How many books have you written prior (if any?)
This first book is planned to be the first of many around the 10 minutes a day ethos, based on my experience and results over decades of success.
What genre is it, and what is it about?
Businesses in the digital age all use social media to promote themselves, indeed recent times have seen an even bigger pivot towards online shopping and many small businesses, sole traders and side hustlers are missing out as their owners feel too busy, too swamped or unsure of how to best use social media to market their business.
This book has been designed to make it simple, easy and stress free to use social media to raise the profile of any business using any platform in just 10 minutes a day. There are many different social media gurus’ sharing the ‘best way’ to market online and they all have their different methods, techniques and solutions.
Get out there, be visible, and tell people about what you do. Using the ‘know, like, trust, buy’ technique, this book takes you through simple stages such as:
- Which platform or ‘social’ should you be using?
- What you should be posting to get the best return on your time
- Simple marketing on social media basics
- Building a ‘social media habit’
- Different types of post & when to use them
- Exactly what you need to do in 10 minutes a day to grow your business online
PLUS a monthly planner with key dates and ideas on what you, the business owner and busy person, could be posting about every day of the year. No in depth writing of special content, nothing complicated or too time consuming, just straight forward easy content that gets you and your business noticed – in ten minutes a day, so you can get on with other things in your day.
What or who inspired you to write this book?
I was inspired to write this book by my clients who struggled so much with finding the time to market their business and needing a really simple and easy way of tapping into this vital way of doing business. Over 96% of SME’s have a social media presence on various platforms, you need to be in it to win it, as the saying goes.
I was also inspired by my mum, Rosemary Babbington who was a published author and my son who had a short story published in a book too. I felt the middle generation (me) had something to live up to and lockdown presented the ideal opportunity, or so I thought, to write a book in time for my 50th birthday last year.
Little did I know that writing during lockdown would be so hard. I home-schooled my 11-year-old son throughout and also continued to work as a teacher, lecturer and coach in the virtual world, so in fact was busier than ever – I really envied the people who had been furloughed and found myself writing at all hours day and night to reach my deadlines.
What writing advice do you have for other aspiring authors?
I love writing and always try to keep my blog updated, although it tends to be random things that happen in my week rather than any strategic content – in my book I try to say ‘done is better than perfect’ which is so important in social media, and indeed life in general.
We can all try to be brilliant at everything, and often beat ourselves up when we are not (especially women in my experience) so this ‘just get out there and do it’ approach can be very useful and still generate results.
List an interesting fact about yourself
I’m a runner, and also a running coach. I’m not fast but I have done all distances from 5k to 50-mile ultra’s and I’m the founder of our local running club too, so that is a wonderful way to meet others, get some exercise & stay sane.
What is your least favourite part of the publishing/writing process?
I struggled with the detail of publishing and for me, having a publisher to guide me and take the mundane things off my hands so SO worthwhile. I don’t think I could have self-published, and I’m still unsure now.
What is your next project?
I aim to write another book and am quite keen to keep the 10 minutes a day ethos going, as I genuinely believe you can generate excellent results if you have a plan and 10 minutes! My next book will possibly be able people management, again so many SME owners get the basics wrong and could move mountains if they had the basic skills, so that might be on the cards.
Or else I’d LOVE to write a book about good sex in your 50’s – its elusive and I think you can also get a better sex life by changing your attitude to sex, and that can be done in 10 minutes a day, even if we all hope the actual act takes longer!!!
