Author Interview with @LouiseMercieca1 #Nutrition #ChildrensWellbeing #TuesdayBookBlog How Food Shapes Your Child

Today’s guest on my author interview is Nutritional Therapist and Presenter on Early Years TV Food, Louise Mercieca. We chat about Louise’s debut book (a family cook book with a twist!), her passion for sharing her knowledge, and working on a potato farm in Australia.

Tell us a little about yourself. (How did you get started writing? What do you do when you’re not writing?)

I had always some vague idea lurking in my head about a book but felt my subject area was already saturated in the market place (Nutrition).  I did some extra study ahead of my little boy starting school – Advanced Nutrition for Children’s Brain Development and I had an ‘Aha’ moment, which was the angle I wanted to focus on!

Is this your first book? How many books have you written prior (if any?)

First book but I do have ideas for a second!

What genre is it, and what is it about?

Health/Nutrition/Early Years Development – a family cook book with a twist. There’s a team of characters to engage the children plus health information for the grown-ups.

What or who inspired you to write this book?

A desire to share the knowledge I had gained from the course to a wider audience having seen how my little boy (then aged 4) was able to absorb the biology and nutritional science aspects of the book and join in with the recipes

What writing advice do you have for other aspiring authors?

A book is the most expensive business card you will ever own! I have had many doors opened as a result of being an author – it’s definitely not all about the numbers of copies sold!

What do you enjoy most about writing and why?

I see writing as an opportunity to share my passion and knowledge – it enables me to take a complex subject and make it accessible to all – knowledge is power yet many people know very little about their own biology and relationship with food.  I have been on a mission to change the way food is viewed as nutrition is far more influential to overall health than people realise!

List three interesting facts about yourself

I used to want to be a journalist until I went on work experience for my exams with a local TV crew and that put me off! It took over 20 years to get back into writing!

I have run the London Marathon 3x, the last time I was ill from 9 miles and despite passing out three times refused not to finish (very stubborn!)

I worked on a potato farm in Australia and lived in a tent.

What is your least favourite part of the publishing/writing process?

Costs! Everything is more expensive than you expect!

What can readers who enjoy your book do to help make it successful?

I use social media (though not as much as I should) any positive feedback and reviews are appreciated and sharing!

What is your next project?

I always have a few things up my sleeve! Currently continuing to write each month for a membership organization, consulting on early years nutrition and supporting Early Years TV.
