Title: Guard of Honor
Author: Tracie Delaney
Category: Romance
My Rating: 4 Star
Book Blurb:
A woman on the edge of insanity—or is something far more sinister at play?
A year ago, Honor Reid was kidnapped and held hostage for seventeen days. Freed in a ransom drop gone wrong, her ordeal has lasting consequences. Despite round-the-clock security, she lives in fear of her abductor returning to finish the job.
Royal Marine veteran, Aiden “Mack” McKenzie is struggling with his own demons. He isn’t interested in a babysitting job on the other side of the Atlantic, especially for a damaged billionaire heiress who point-blank refuses to leave her house.
When the man Mack owes his life to pleads with him to take the job, Mack reluctantly agrees. However, he gets more than he bargained for when he finds himself drawn to the woman he’s bound to protect.
Within days of his arrival, strange things start to happen, and Mack must face up to the possibility that the woman he’s falling for is not all she seems.

My Review:
I’ve had the pleasure of meeting Tracie a few times in real life at various book events and shared an author interview with her back in 2017, which you can read HERE. It’s fair to say that Tracie has been busy since then!
Tracie is a Kindle Unlimited All Star author of more than twenty contemporary romance novels which she writes from her office in the freezing cold North West of England. The office used to be a garage, but she needed somewhere quiet to write and so she stole it from her poor, long-suffering husband who is still in mourning that he’s been driven out to the shed!
Her books have a common theme of strong women who aren’t afraid to go after what they want and alpha males who put up a great fight (which they ultimately lose!)
When I spotted an ad for Guard of Honor on Facebook it prompted me to give it a go. Reading romance isn’t my usual genre, but I’m trying to push myself out of the norm and embrace alternative ideas. Tracie’s writing style made it easy to fall into step with the characters and engage with the story.
I enjoyed finding out more about Honor’s demons. Despite the horror she faced I loved her spirit and desire to become whole again. Mack was the perfect accompaniment for this story with his own torments.
The characters were easy to connect with and the chemistry between them was well played out. There was scope for more depth in the storyline and a few more twists, turns, and surprises, but it didn’t detract at all from my enjoyment.
Although romance isn’t my usual genre, I wouldn’t hesitate to read the rest of this series. I read this book in one day as it captivated me and the easy writing style made it a pleasure to lose myself in the story.

Thanks, Rosie. It’s taken far too long but I’m enjoying a few shorter books to build myself up again.
