Today, on the Big Blue Takeover, I’m delighted to introduce award winning, YA contemporary author, Tracy Hewitt Meyer. Over to Tracy…
The Fun Stuff:
What part of the world do you come from?
I grew up in a small town in Almost Heaven West Virginia. I have since traded rural living for city-dwelling, but travel back to visit my family every chance I get.
What did you want to be when you grew up?
Drum roll…I wanted to be a writer. I am also a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, but that was not my childhood dream.
List three words to describe yourself.
Introverted. Compassionate. And, well, I can’t think of a third word. What does that say about me? Indecisive, maybe?
Who would play you in a film about your life?
Katie Holmes because we both have brown hair.
What’s your favorite snack food when writing?
Candy. Twizzlers. Skittles. Anything I can chew on that will give me a sugar-rush.
If you had a super power, what would it be?
I would love to be invisible so I could watch people without being noticed. Needless to say, I have voyeuristic tendencies!

The Sensible Side:
Tell us a little about yourself. (How did you get started writing? What do you do when you’re not writing?)
I started freelance writing after my third child was born, realized that was not for me, then sat down and taught myself how to write a novel. It was that simple, and it was that hard.
When I’m not writing, I’m binge-watching shows on Netflix (current show of choice is Grey’s Anatomy love that show!), carpooling my kiddies to and fro, or reading. Late to the game as always, I’m finally reading the Harry Potter Series. My goal is to finish all books by summer’s end. I’m on #5 now, so I’m cutting it close!
Where did the inspiration for the Rowan Slone series come from?
Real-life stories of people I either knew personally or from stories I’d heard on the news or during my time spent as a social worker. I took bits and pieces here and there to create the series.
What do you like most about writing YA contemporary romance?
I love the raw reality of teen romance. Everything is so intense during those formative years and I really enjoy the challenge of trying to recreate it in a story.
Who is your favorite character from the series and why?
I love Rowan. Plain and simple. I spent so much time in her head during the creation of her series that I feel like she’s an actual person.
Can you give us a brief excerpt from book one, A Life Redefined?
Rowan’s stories are brimming with her poetry. Here is the first poem she writes and it begins book #1, A Life, Redefined. This poem sets the tone for this novel—it’s gritty, raw and emotional.
When the darkness is too great,
When the pain is too real,
There is nothing but sharp edges,
Razor slices,
To remind me that I am alive.
-Rowan Slone-
What can we expect from you in the future?
I have a YA thriller that I’m editing, as well as a YA thriller with horror elements that I’m slogging through the first draft of.
How can we contact you or find out more about your books?
Readers can find all links to social media and email on my website: www.TracyHewittMeyer.com. That’s the launch pad for all my comings and goings, doings and whatnot.
